Why give a doodle

Most people with a math degree stop drawing. Most artists never sit through a linear algebra lecture. I refused to choose, and the two habits kept feeding each other in ways I didn't plan.

The tech side of my life is pointed at things that matter. At Columbia's AI for Vision Science lab I build computer vision tools that help low-vision users, and support systems that help clinicians catch glaucoma and eye cancer earlier. Before that I taught models to read insect feeding signals for the USDA, work that became a peer-reviewed paper on protecting crops. I've also done quantitative research at trading firms, which is where the math gets sharpened.

The art side is this site. Doodles, murals, installations, and whatever the markers decide. I ran the art council across the Claremont Colleges for four years, put up six installations, and spent a lot of time convincing 8,000 students that art belongs in their week. I also won our college's math art competition twice, which is the most on-brand award I'll ever hold.

The niche, if you need one sentence for it: I make technology for social good, and I make art, and each one is better because the other exists.

2012 to 2021 · Singapore

Grew up drawing in the margins

United World College of Southeast Asia. Math olympiad medals, national debate titles, and notebooks full of doodles that were definitely not lecture notes.

2021 to 2025 · Claremont, CA

Math at CMC, computer science at Harvey Mudd

Graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors theses in both. President of the 5Cs Art Council, serving public art to 8,000 students. Won the CMC Math Art Competition two years running and the Harvey Mudd CS department art prize. Co-founded the Claremont Accelerator, which raised over $2.6M for student startups.

2024 to 2025 · USDA

Machine learning for the bugs

Automated the labelling of insect feeding waveforms with ML, published as peer-reviewed, NSF-backed research. Tiny electrical signals, real consequences for crop protection.

2025 · APAC markets

Quant research summers

Systematic equity research and alpha signals at Graviton Research Capital, trading data pipelines at Chicago Global. This is where the math earns its keep.

2025 to 2027 · New York

Columbia, twice

M.S. in Computer Science (machine learning), now an M.S. in Financial Engineering. Research assistant at the AI for Vision Science lab, building assistive tools for low-vision users and diagnostic support for eye clinicians. Also TA for the Innovation and Design Lab, teaching prototyping to 40 students.
